There is an empty tomb just outside of Jerusalem.
This is the greatest fact in the history of the world.
What does this empty tomb tell us?
The empty tomb tells us God has overcome sin.
We know Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, the Savior of the world, the One Who saved the world from sin.
The empty tomb proves this is so. Had Jesus remained in the tomb He would have been just another ‘religious’ figure making religious claims. (The world has been filled with religious figures making religious claims. Their tomb locations are known, and they are filled.)
The empty tomb tells us God has overcome our sin through the death of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. This is really important for us to understand. God has overcome the sin of the whole world. This was accomplished in the manner Jesus had said it would be, and only in the manner Jesus said it would be. (Remember – only the tomb of Jesus is empty.) God does not overlook our sin, He judges it. God is Holy, and He is righteous, and He cannot and does not overlook or excuse our sin. The Bible says, “the wages of sin is death.” The man who commits sin is condemned, and there is nothing the man who has committed sin can do about that in and of himself.
Thankfully, wonderfully, Jesus came into the world to take away our sin, and to pay the wages for sin in His own body. Jesus made Himself a sacrifice for the sin of the whole world. Only He could. Only Jesus is the Son of God, and the empty tomb proves this is so.
Since Jesus HAS died to pay the price for your sin and my sin, (no matter how grievous,) only one sin remains which leads to condemnation: unbelief. Unbelief in God. Unbelief in the Son of God. Unbelief in the love God demonstrated in the willing sacrifice of His Son, and unbelief that Jesus’ sacrificial death alone can atone for sin. Unbelief in what Jesus said of Himself, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Me.” And, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Only Jesus’ resurrection from the dead proves His words to be true. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event in the history of the world because it proves God has accepted the sacrifice Jesus has made for our sin. All sin.
Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is an undeniable fact the world cannot refute, as hard as it tries. The tomb is empty. Jesus has been raised from the dead! He was seen by over 500 men at one time, and many of those witnesses remained alive at the time the Bible passages concerning His resurrection were written!
By Jesus’ sacrificial death we have forgiveness of the sin of the whole world. By His resurrection, we have proof this is so. Will you believe this?
God says, (Deut 30:19-20) “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.”
