The Word This Week

Matt 9:18…

Once again, we see desperation produces far more in life than nonchalance ever could.

What kind of desperation could cause a ruler of a synagogue to come to Jesus? What kind of desperation could cause the ruler of synagogue to risk everything he is and all he owns to come to Jesus?

What kind of desperation could cause a woman to come to Jesus even if it were only possible to touch the hem of His garment?

What kind of desperation would cause the blind men to come to Jesus - or the friends of a demonically mute man to bring him to Jesus?

The answer is hope for the hopeless.

The truth is those who most-often willingly come to Jesus realize their condition is hopeless in this world.  They’ve already tried most if not all the solutions the material world offers.

They come to Jesus because He alone offers the hope of power over the immaterial.

There is no explanation for the power over the material realm Jesus is and has been demonstrating unless He also has power over the immaterial realm.

Can Jesus conquer even death itself? Yes, it’s why He came.

Can Jesus heal a woman afflicted 12 years with a flow of blood? Yes, it’s why He came.

Can Jesus heal blind men? Yes, it’s why He came.

Can Jesus deliver a demoniac mute from the clutches of Satan? Yes, it’s why He came.

But that’s not all He came for. There’s a big wide world of people out there living their lives as sheep without a shepherd. They don’t know they’re desperate – but they are. Jesus came to teach them so. And He passes the baton to the proceeding generations to do likewise…

There are so many millions – even billions – who are wandering aimlessly through this world heading straight for hell. It is up to us to let them know how desperate their situation truly is. Pray for those would share this vital message – even as Jesus was faithful to do.
